The Ferguson Florissant School District is accepting applications for the ANTICIPATED position of STEAM Academy Middle School English Language Arts/Social Studies (Humanities) Teacher.   The STEAM/Gifted Program provides an environment of excellence where students are engaged in project-based learning to develop a keen understanding of academic content and apply their knowledge. Students are empowered to take ownership for their learning and encouraged to question and innovate. JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:   Facilitate learning of curriculum and life skills that contribute to the development of mature, capable, and responsible individuals.  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A valid Missouri professional teaching certificate in grade level 6-9 in both English and Social Studies.
  2. Gifted certification K-12 preferred or able to obtain within two years.
  3. Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in English or Social Studies.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Plans daily instructional activities for all students including the development of lesson plans, materials and assessment tools that meet the individual needs of the students.
  2. Understands and implements acceleration and differentiation in response to varied learner needs.
  3. Holds high expectations for all students and sees themselves as facilitators of student learning.
  4. Organizes and uses a variety of teaching techniques, strategies, materials and technology to maximize the learning of each child, individually and in group settings.
  5. Assesses student progress, both formatively and summatively, providing parents, students and administrators with specific feedback regarding individual student performance and uses the results to adjust instruction as needed.  
  6. Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulations.  
  7. Takes responsibility for teaching the district curriculum as outlined in the curriculum documents.
  8. Keeps abreast of current developments through a professional growth plan.  
  9. Participates in school and district activities.
  10. Establishes and maintains a functional, attractive, orderly and safe classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and building a sense of community.
  11. Manage positive discipline in accordance with the Discipline Code of the District, administrative regulations, school board policies and legal requirements.
  12. Develops a repertoire of strategies to manage student behavior, individually and in groups, in a manner that encourages individual responsibility, self-control, self-discipline and effective decision-making.
  13. Contributes to school effectiveness by collaborating with other professionals in a respectful, cooperative, and caring manner.  
  14. Must be able to model and communicate all aspects of non-fictio literacy including reading, writing, and speaking components.
  15. Promotes thinking at the analytical, synthesis, evaluative and creative levels.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.
