Extended School Year (ESY) 2024

Dates- June 10th - June 27th
Extended School Year Hours:  8:30a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday – Thursday

Staff Hours: 8:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:   Assist the special education teacher in providing quality instruction for young children with developmental delays.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:   Sixty (60) hours of college credit (100 level or higher), with some course work related to early childhood special education or early childhood education

Experience with young children

Knowledge/Skills 

1. Knowledge of early childhood development

2. Sensitivity to the feelings and needs of children with variety of developmental delays

3. Ability to work smoothly on a team of a teacher, specialists, and other assistants

4.  Confidence to work with young children with special needs on an individual basis

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:
1. Assist teacher in planning and working with young children and follow her approach.
2. Assist in the development of a learning environment that emphasizes communication skills and social-emotional development

3. Use a positive approach in dealing with all behaviors.
4. Maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues and parents. 
5. Deal with children fairly and impartially.
6. Utilize observational skills in learning about each child.
7. Maintain program organization necessary for operating a classroom (i.e., preparing activities, maintain an orderly room, clean and organize materials)

8. Accompany students to general education classrooms as assigned; provide individual instructional assistance.

9. Demonstrate professional standards of appearance, ethics, and behavior, which serve as a positive model for children and parents.
10. Be punctual and regular in attendance, spending sufficient time to perform assigned duties thoroughly.
