JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE: Provide security services for the District.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Patrol and monitor all campuses, sites, grounds and parking lots in order to deter, detect, report and stop any unlawful or inappropriate activity on district property.
  2. Observe and screen all visitors to ensure they are properly authorized and control access of any unauthorized persons and vehicles on to district property.
  3. Work with school administrators and law enforcement officials in order to mitigate and manage emergency situations and serious student offenses.
  4. Complete and submit detailed reports, activity logs, safety records, and other documents that involves district property, staff and/or student safety.
  5. Perform vehicle and pedestrian traffic safety duties when necessary.
  6. Maintain alertness and good discernment at all times in order to correct and report conditions that may be hazardous to health and safety and could likely disrupt the educational process.
  7. Supervise and monitor student behavior to in order to protect their safety as well as ensure school board policies and school discipline guidelines are followed.
  8. Establish positive working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, students and the community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Possess or able to obtain a St. Louis County Police Security License is required.
  2. Previous security experience in a public school setting preferred
  3. Must possess excellent human relations skills.
  4. Must be in satisfactory physical condition.
  5. Have the ability and desire to work with public, staff and students.
  6. Have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  7. Have a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  8. Must be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES: 

  1. Maintain campus security during school hours.
  2. Provide appropriate control of access to premises.
  3. Patrol all school buildings and district property during non-school hours.
  4. Provide security at extracurricular activities as assigned.
  5. Work cooperatively with local police.
  6. Investigate and provide written report of incidents.
  7. Work alternate shifts including weekends and holidays. Carry pager.
  8. Communicate with students, employees, and general public.
  9. Build positive relationships with students, administrators, and general public.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
  11. Must be capable of lifting 50lbs.
  12. CPR certified.
  13. Mace certified.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear for extended periods of time. .  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch and lift up to 50 pounds.  The employee must be able to exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, key a two-way radio microphone, operate a keyboard, and use a lock and key; hear and understand speech at normal levels; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; ability to isolate voices in multiple conversations; articulate information in an emergency situation; use physical agility and strength to defend self and detain persons using force if necessary; and have the visual acuity necessary to observe and comprehend student movement.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS:

The work setting involves performance in an office and school environment with various levels of staff, visitor and student involvement.  Conditions can include working in various hot, cold, and/orwet weather conditions. The accomplishment of tasks is often interrupted by persons with special and/or immediate needs.  Work conditions feature frequent demands to support staff and administrators.
