LOCATION: Head Start Program/McCluer South Berkeley High School
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree in Social Work, Early Childhood Education or related field; Parents as Teachers certification preferred
- Experience working with parents and young children
- A solid understanding of and sensitivity to diverse families and cultures
- An awareness and understanding of community services and referral process
- The ability to be an integral part of a team
- Ability and willingness to be very flexible and accepting non-routine tasks
- Excellent recordkeeping skills
- Capacity to drive to homes and community locations
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Recruit and enroll families into the Head Start, Parents as Teachers, and other Early Education programs.
- Assist families in assessing their strengths to meet their needs and goals.
- Provide case management services and refer families to appropriate community resources.
- Maintain accurate records in computer and paper files as required, report to Head Start, meeting all deadlines, and ensure confidentiality of information.
- Provide PAT personal visits for families in their homes, usually after the end of the school day, in the evening, or on Saturdays.
- Attend regular meetings at Head Start central office and Parents as Teachers meetings.
- Classroom duties including collecting tuition, serving lunch, relieving teachers as needed.
- Exhibit ability to relate and work cooperatively with all staff and collaborating agencies such as Department of Social Services.
- Maintain a commitment to professionalism, exhibiting independent and collaborative work skills, flexibility, and the ability to make decisions.
- Other responsibilities and tasks as determined by program administrator.
