JOB OR POSITION SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

 

The goals and responsibilities of the College and Career Readiness (CCR) Specialist align with the competencies of the Graduate Profile. From the beginning of freshman year to graduation day, the CCR Specialist will continuously work with all students and their parents/guardians to design a career plan that will enable the student to meet their post-secondary goals. Under the direction of the Principal and CTE Director, the CCR Specialist will empower students to be successful in post-secondary opportunities. More specifically, the CCR Specialist will collect, review, maintain, and distribute a wide variety of information concerning trade schools, vocational and employment opportunities, college, military, and career information. The CCR Specialist supports the work of the school counseling program by meeting with students and parents individually and/or in groups on career planning. Builds and maintains rapport with career, military, college, and the business community in order to gather and disseminate current information and resources.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Foster college-and-career-going culture 
  2. Advise and coach secondary students and parents/guardians in college and career planning and CTE pathway classes.
  3. Hosts student conferences regarding post-secondary planning using the ICAP as a reference tool
  4. Develops and actively manages the college and career information center by obtaining, organizing, filing, and displaying current materials related to college and career exploration, college assessments, financial aid, scholarships, vocational opportunities, and local resources for students
  5. Hosts college and career fairs, journey to college activities, decision day events, etc.
  6. Manages district/school website for college and career resources 
  7. Tracks post-secondary indicators (applications, majors, financial aid packages, commitments, FAFSA completion, acceptances, scholarships, etc.)
  8. Develops and implement a system surrounding the 180-day follow-up process
  9. Oversees the A+ Scholarship programming 
  10. Serves as building coordinator for dual enrollment students 
  11. Maintain ongoing communication and provide support to students (and their parents) with college applications, including financial aid paperwork.
  12. Collaborates with school district administration, CTE Director, College advisor and  representatives, and school staff to develop a schedule of availability for students and their parents.
  13. Coordinates and assists with CTE/CCR testing and proctoring, such as Industry Recognized Credentials (IRCs), Technical Skill Assessments (TSA), WorkKeys, Pre-ACT, ACT, ASVAB, ACCUPLACER, and SAT, including student registrations, waivers, vouchers, etc. 
  14. Attends faculty meetings, CTE Advisory Committee meetings, CCR specialist meetings, and the CTE Department Professional Development days.
  15. Participates in related professional development
  16. Hosts student and parent workshops (examples: application process, career exploration, FAFSA, etc.)
  17. Assists students with post-secondary applications, scholarships, etc. 
  18. Advertises, communicates, and disseminates CCR information; instructs and assists students/staff with computer searches for CCR opportunities.
  19. Facilitate scheduled visitations by representatives from trade and vocational schools, industry , college, and the military.
  20. Hosts speaker series on various career opportunities 
  21. Coordinates student visits to colleges, universities, trade schools, and scholarship events
  22. Plans, organizes, develops, and creates informational material on career events and publications.
  23. Communicate CTE Pathway information to secondary students, parents, and administrators.
  24. Encourages the use of, and assists students with, career interests and other assessment instruments.
  25. Advertises and disseminates scholarship information; instructs and assists students/staff with computer searches for colleges, careers, financial aid, and scholarships.
  26. Collaborates with other college and career specialists to execute district imperatives 
  27. Participates in college and career readiness parent university sessions
  28. Assists with the execution of work permits 
  29. Performs related duties as assigned.

  1. Knowledge of college, career and occupational resources, trends, and opportunities.
  2. Knowledge of school operation and ability to relate effectively to students, staff, and parents.
  3. Skills in the areas of organization, attention to detail, filing, problem solving, and commitment to follow through on tasks.
  4. Excellent skills in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  5. Ability to communicate in a professional manner both orally and in writing.
  6. Ability to make public presentations in small or large group settings.
  7. Ability to work as part of a team and continue learning through professional development
  8. Ability to work efficiently and effectively with staff and public
  9. Ability to produce and maintain accurate records.
  10. Ability to work both independently and cooperatively, exercise judgment and creativity, organize work, set priorities, and meet deadlines.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience in the field of College and Career Readiness is preferred.
  • Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.
