JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE: To assist the school nurse in the smooth and efficient operation of the school health service to realize that service’s maximum positive impact on the educational environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Administers first aid to students and staff for minor injuries as needed.
- Assists with the assessment of illnesses, diseases, injuries and certain health screenings of students and staff under the direction of professional staff.
- Assists in the maintenance of medical records and daily logs of clinic visits.
- Reports sensitive situations and/or extensive injuries/illnesses to professional staff for further evaluation.
- Works under protocols established by school nurse.
- Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- First Aid training is current.
- CPR training.
- Experience working with children.
- School experience preferred.
Education - Must have successfully completed sixty college credit hours.
Knowledge/Skills –
- Highly organized.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:
- The Clinic Aide is responsible for the following:
- Helps maintain the health clinic under the direction of the school nurse.
- Provide first aid in the nurse’s absence.
- Distribute medication to students.
- Maintains records and performs clerical support to the nurse.
- Assist nurse in maintaining the clinic environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch and to lift up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required included close vision, distance vision, the ability to adjust and focus and depth perception. Specific auditory abilities required include normal conversation, phone conversation and ability to isolate voices in multiple conversations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS:
The work setting involves performance in a school environment with various levels of staff and students. The accomplishment of tasks is often interrupted by persons with special and/or immediate needs. Work conditions feature frequent demands to address conditions, problems, and conflicts that involve students and parents with diverse backgrounds and needs.
