BUILDING SUPPORT AIDE

 

EDUCATION - Sixty (60) or more college credit hours preferred.

 

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE: Transport students to and from internship sites and Leave to Learn field trips.  Assist teacher, students and school office personnel with routine tasks. Also, assist the office manager with all clerical, technical, and secretarial services necessary for the successful operation of the school, and to observe students in non-instructional areas in order to make sure that activities are carried out safely.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Performs routine clerical duties to include basic typing tasks.
  2. Serves as an assistant to other office support staff.
  3. Performs various student attendance procedures.
  4. Assists with handling pertinent activities needed for your school/building program.
  5. Handles calls from public and staff and disperses relevant information.
  6. Takes messages and/or refers calls to staff members
  7. Takes student attendance calls and calls parents who have not reported their child absence.
  8. Handles student sign in and admit slips for students who arrive after the school day has started.
  9. Monitors student sign outs for students leaving school throughout the day.
  10. Monitors visitor procedures.
  11. Performs filing.
  12. May be required to stamp textbooks/ library books.
  13. Makes photocopies as directed.
  14. Assists school staff with counting of cash from fundraisers and school activities.
  15. Assists staff with counting of votes from various school activities.
  16. Sorts and distributes district and U.S. Mail.
  17. Promotes good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation.
  18. Maintains respect for confidential information.
  19. May be required to use a computer to look up schedules, addresses and other pertinent information.
  20. Promotes good safety practices and procedures.
  21. Transport students to various internship sites and Leave to Learn field trips.
  22. Performs related work as required.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Ability to work well with young people and staff.
  2. Must possess a commercial chauffer and bus driver's license.
  3. Must be over 21 years of age and maintain a good driving record.
  4. High school diploma or its equivalent. Appropriate license to transport students.
  5. Have good organizational skills.
  6. Have excellent human relations skills.
  7. Possess sensitivity toward children.
  8. Have some previous experience in working with children.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:

 

The Building Support Aide is responsible for the following:

 

1.  Supervise student help and volunteers. 

2.  Type correspondence.
3.  Compile lists and rosters as requested.
4.  Type field trip permission slips and other forms.
5.  Duplicate materials using the copy machine and distribute.
6.  Assist in the school clinic when needed.
7.  Assist with answering the office phone.
8.  Sort and distribute mail.
9.    Help maintain a permanent record system for students.
10.  Do lunch verification.
11.  Perform hallway and cafeteria duty as assigned.

12.  Handle problems effectively.

12.  Report all injuries to the nurse, administrator and office professional for record-keeping         and advising parents of injuries

13.  Supervision of students in collaborative room/commons and cafeteria

14.  Assists teachers in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills.

15.  Assists with independent study, enrichment work, and intervention work assigned by             the advisor. 

16.  Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills and assemblies. 

17.  Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about                  students.

18.  Perform other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch and to lift up to 35 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required included close vision, distance vision, the ability to adjust and focus and depth perception.  Specific auditory abilities required include normal conversation, phone conversation and ability to isolate voices in multiple conversations.

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS:

The work setting involves performance in a school environment with various levels of staff and students.  The accomplishment of tasks is often interrupted by persons with special and/or immediate needs.  Work conditions feature frequent demands to address conditions, problems, and conflicts that involve students and parents with diverse backgrounds and needs.
