SCHOOL NURSE OPENING (K-12)
PRIMARY FUNCTION: The major focus of school nursing services is the promotion of health, prevention of illness and the early detection and correction of health problems.
DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: 1. Building Principal 2. Director of Student Services
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Students:
- Provide immediate intervention for students with health problems.
- Work with students and families to enable the student to achieve in school.
- Operate from clearly defined goals and objectives
- Parents:
- Serve as a contact person in the school for the parent.
- Act as a health liaison person between home, school, and community.
- Teachers
- Assist teachers in working with students who have individual health problems.
- Initiate contacts and provide immediate follow-up with staff.
- Community Agencies:
- Make referrals to agencies in the community in order to provide health needs for
students.
- Screening:
Screen and evaluate in the areas of vision, hearing, dental, and
developmental growth patterns.
- Health Records:
Maintain, evaluate and interpret cumulative health data for each student. Records
include yearly revision of forms, ensuring compliance with Missouri State
Immunization Law, Sec. 167.181.
- Safety:
- Participate with the staff to provide safe surroundings for students.
- Report any safety hazards to the administrator.
- Emergency Treatment:
- In service staff and students on the AED
- Administer first-aid and direct students and families to appropriate health services.
- Health Curriculum:
- Conduct demonstrations and discussions on subjects concerning health in the
classroom at the request of the teacher.
- Assume responsibility for the coordination of human growth and
development.
- Medication:
Supervise the dispensing of medication to students according to District policy.
- Clinic Management:
- Responsible for creating a professional, well-organized, clean and attractive
clinic.
- Effectively monitor clinic flow.
- Child Abuse:
Report incidents of child abuse and neglect to the Missouri Child Abuse Hotline as
well as the Principal and the Director of Student Services.
- Other:
Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Director of Student
Services and Nurse Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current RN or LPN license in the State of Missouri;
- Must know current ideas and trends in the health area;
- Must maintain updated CPR/AED certification and training in the areas of communicable diseases;
- Must have computer skills
- Know current ideas and trends in the health area.
