Early Ed Teacher Assistant (5 Positions) Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 35 hours per week
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE: Assist the teacher in providing a quality early childhood education program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum sixty (60) hours of college credit, with at least one course related to early childhood education.
- A.A. in early childhood education, child development, or childcare preferred
- Experience working with young children
Knowledge/Skills –
- Understanding of early childhood development.
- Sensitivity to the feelings and needs of others.
- Experience working with young children.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES:
- Assist teacher in planning and working with preschool children and follow her lead/approach with children.
- Assist in the development of a learning environment which emphasizes communication skills, thinking and problem-solving skills, social-emotional skills, and motor skills.
- Maintain confidentiality concerning children and families.
- Use a positive approach in dealing with all behavior.
- Maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues and parents.
- Interact with children fairly and impartially.
- Utilize observational skills in learning about each child.
- Maintain program organization necessary for operating a classroom, for example, prepare activities, maintain an orderly room, clean and organize materials.
- Demonstrate professional standards of appearance, ethics, and behavior, which serve as a positive model for children and parents.
- Be punctual and regular in attendance, spending sufficient time to perform assigned duties thoroughly.

- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch and lift up to 35 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required included close vision, distance vision, the ability to adjust and focus and depth perception.
- Specific auditory abilities required include normal conversation, phone conversation and ability to isolate voices in multiple conversations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / CONDITIONS: The work setting involves performance in a school environment with various levels of staff and students. The accomplishment of tasks is often interrupted by persons with special and/or immediate needs. Work conditions feature frequent demands to address conditions, problems, and conflicts that involve students and parents with diverse backgrounds and needs.
